What not to do in an intervew.....

So maybe a few of you know that I work in HR... and I interview people for a living... through the years i have had some interesting situations/people come through my door wanting employment. I will say lately there have been some REAL characters, I would attest this to the economy, to the lack of jobs and to the desperatness of applicants... Please know that I am VERY thankful and grateful to have a job with a WONDERFUL company and every time I interview a candidate I realize that they are trying to better themselves and trying to make a little $ however, I would HIGHLY recommend leaving some of these situations out of your application/resume/interview process:

  • Please do not include your personal information on your PROFESSIONAL resume people - the other day I received a resume that told me the year and make of her car, that she had 2 pet poodles and that her friend who was Deaf had taught her alot (and yes she used a lot as one word <--- hello pet peeve of mine!)
  • Bluetooths are an awesome invention for hands free access on in your car - not as an accessory on your ear during an interview
  • Please refrain from using the word flirty on your resume
  • Please do not ask me how far back our criminal background check goes, because that just means that you have something on there that you are trying to hide
  • Please leave all family members behind at the time of your interview
  • HR people are kinda like your parents - we know if you are lying, so if you previously worked at the organization you are applying to work at again - please disclose this information upfront - WE WILL FIND OUT...
  • If you were referred by someone to apply, please know the FULL name of the person who referred you - it looks A LOT less credible if you only know her name is Katie
  • Just like bluetooths, hats are a nice accessory to your outfit, not to wear during interviews
Those are just a few that I can think of off the top of my head... some of my candidates never cease to amaze me. I hope some of these gave you a laugh today!

Show us your life - Favorite Kids Names

Today over at Kelly's Korner the topic is

Kids Names

Sorry that this is a duplicate post from a few months back.. however I cannot miss up a chance to talk about baby names... I love them and I can't get enough of naming my futures kids!

I love when families have traditions or family history behind their child/children name(s)... and as of right now, my family does not have any traditions.. but with Justin and my middle names both being "R" (Justin Ray and Lindsey Rene), i want our kids to have an R middle name - so that we all have the same last 2 initials.... so with that being said - here are my kids names

Girls

Vera Rea
Emmerson "Emmie" Rian

Boys
Everett Ruggerio
Graham Robert
Corbett or Corbin Ryland

** Ruggerio was my mom's family's name before they came over on the boat from Italy, they had to change it when they came to America to Rogers - and I have always loved the idea of having the middle name of a child as Ruggerio - and I think its a way to carry on part of my Italian heritage**

***Robert is my dad's first name and Justin's dad's middle name - so its appropriate to incorporate it into a boys middle name (And it starts with an R)***

So not to put the cart in front of the horse -I completely realize that I am happily dating my boyfriend, I don't think there is a child in our future anytime soon... but its never too soon to plan - right?!!?

Stop on over to Kelly's Korner to check out other bloggers top baby names!

Happy Friday :)

Top 2 Tuesday - Splurges

** First off - thank you for all of your sweet comments about completing the 1/2 marathon! you all are honestly too sweet... you sure know how to make a girl feel great:)**

Today's theme for Top 2 Tuesdays are:

things you splurge on

there is something about shoes - i love them! but i like quality shoes.. sure i have my fair share of old navy flip flops but i like name brand shoes - they seem to last longer for me

my mizzuno running shoes - love them!

my sperry's - perfect summer shoe

and i have 2 pairs of these wedges from nine west - they are perfect for work

the other item that i splurge on is my straightener. i asked for one for christmas one year and my grandma got me a chi - i had no idea how nice it was until i actually used it... it is heavenly! i can't use any other kind of straighter now... the other ones rip my hair out because they don't get nearly as hot [which i realize is totally ruining my hair - put if thats the worse that i do to my hair - so be it! at least my hair looks the way that i want it to]

remember to head on over to Taylors blog and check out other peoples top 2 splurges...

what are yours?

i did it... 13.1 miles

So yesterday was the big day... the day i trained for 3 months for.. the capital city 1/2 marathon.... well i did it! there wasn't a specific time that i was looking to beat - i just wanted to cross the finish line.. and i did that [surprisingly under 3 hours {remember i never claimed to be a fast runner!}]

chris, myself and ashley before the race
at the beginning of the race 10,000 runners
at about mile marker 3 the rain started.. and it never quit... i will be completely honest with you and i didn't train in any inclement weather and I hate wet shoes and socks [to me there is not a worse feeling in the world!] so knowing that i had 10 more miles to go in the pouring down raining i knew i was going to be semi-miserable! so for the next 10 miles, i avoided as many puddles as i could, tried to protect justin's ipod touch from getting ruined and pushed through the freezing cold weather [not only was it raining but there was enough of a breeze to make it freezing! - Thank you mother nature!] to say that it was easy -i would be lying, but i knew that i would regret not finishing if i had given up at that time - so i just kept going!

finishing the race almost to the finish line [drenched]
myself, ashley and chris after the race - soaking wet!
justin and myself
my mom, dad and me

i am very thankful for everyone who came out to watch -justin, my mom, dad, alli, doug, my grandma and grandpa, molly and jenn! you guys all made running that much easier - it was amazing to have that support there for me! and thank you to everyone who sent me a text, facebook message or left me a note on my blog wishing me well! i couldn't have done it alone!

i am also excited to try running the 1/2 again in the fall. justin is going to sign up with me and we are going to start training again next week! this time my goal is to run the entire time, and not just partially! i now know what 13.1 feels like and i know that i have it in me to run the entire time!

i am very thankful to ashley who got me started in running, and because of her motivating me - i have started to encourage others.. because if I can run a 1/2 marathon - anyone can! it is so rewarding in the long run [no pun intended!] let me know if you are interested in the training schedule that we used - and i will send it to you!

congrats to everyone who ran in the capital city 1/2 yesterday and thank you for all of your support through the last few months!

The world just got a little sweeter (times 2)

Today was a VERY special day....

I knew my friend Lauren was being induced today, but little did I know did I would come into work today to find an email from my dad saying that Melissa's water broke and they were on the way to the hospital. A few minutes later we found out that Lauren and Melissa were next door to one another in Labor and Delivery in the hospital.

Lauren delivered first at 9:31am

introducing:
Beckett Grant
his going home outfit
and there is just something adorable about little babies feet

and then I got over to the hospital and was patiently waiting with the grandparents when Bobbi Jo (Melissa's mom) and my Aunt went up to see if Melissa had started pushing yet when we heard a squeal - which instantly let us know that Addison had been born... at 2:55 p

introducing:
Addison Riley

Today was such an exciting day! I am so happy that I had a chance to see both of my friends [family] and their new additions! Congrats Lauren and Greg, and Jamie and Melissa! I am so happy for you all and I can't wait to watch these little babies grow up!

I hope ya'll had as great of a Thursday as I did!
